GATE 2026 registration begins August 28 with revised subject choices, eligibility rules, and exam schedule

The registration process for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 will begin on August 28. Candidates aspiring for postgraduate admissions, direct doctoral programmes, or job opportunities in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) can apply through the official portal — gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
GATE is a national-level examination that also serves as an entry route to certain international universities.
This year, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has been designated as the organising institute. The official brochure has already been released, detailing eligibility rules, examination cities, and permitted subject paper combinations.
Widely regarded as one of the most important tests for engineering and science graduates in India, GATE’s relevance has grown over the years as PSUs and select overseas institutions have started considering its scores for recruitment and admissions.
