Bring your 12th-grade mark sheet, proof of Indian college admission, and original passport with a valid visa.

Dubai: The Consulate General of India (CGI) in Dubai has announced a special one-day walk-in facility for Indian students to obtain NRI certificates. The move is aimed at assisting Grade 12 students ahead of the upcoming college admission season in India.
In an advisory issued on April 1, the Consulate stated that a "one-time exception" is being made to bypass the usual appointment system, citing the "time-sensitive nature" of college applications.
Walk-in Details
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, eligible students can apply for their NRI certificates at any BLS International centre across Dubai and the Northern Emirates without a prior appointment.
The service will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants are strongly advised to arrive at the centres early to avoid potential delays and long queues.
Required Documentation
To secure an appointment at the centre on the day, students must present the following:
- 12th-grade academic document (Mark sheet or equivalent).
- Proof of college admission in India.
- Original Passport (with a valid residency visa).
The Consulate has also provided a link to the application proforma on its official website, urging applicants to download and complete the necessary forms before visiting the centre to expedite the process.
Student Impact
NRI certificates are a mandatory requirement for students seeking admission under the NRI quota in Indian professional colleges and universities. The annual rush for these documents often leads to a shortage of available appointment slots, making this walk-in drive a significant relief for the Indian expat community in the UAE.
The Consulate added that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide further updates as required throughout the admission cycle.
