The arrest of an MBBS student from Al-Falah University has sent shockwaves through the campus, leaving students anxious about their academic future. The university, already under scrutiny for past controversies, is now facing heightened attention following the Delhi Red Fort blast on November 10.

MBBS student arrested for alleged terror links

Janisur Alam, also known as Nisar Alam, an MBBS student at Al-Falah University, Haryana, was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in Uttar Dinajpur district, West Bengal.

The 23-year-old, a resident of Ludhiana with family roots in Konal village near Dalkhola, was detained on Friday while returning from a wedding at his ancestral home. A senior police officer said the arrest followed suspicions of his involvement in activities related to the recent Delhi blast.

“The youth is a medical student of Haryana's Al-Falah University. He had travelled to his ancestral home with his mother and sister to attend a relative's wedding. Officers of the NIA intercepted him on his way back after tracking his movements through mobile-tower location data,” the officer explained.

Sources said Alam was also seen “loitering suspiciously” near a local station. During questioning, he allegedly attempted to flee, leading to his custody. Digital devices and documents were seized, but the NIA has yet to establish a direct link between Alam and the Delhi blast.

Relatives described him as a quiet and studious individual. “He was a very calm and polite young man, always busy with his studies and showing no interest in anything else. To think that he could be connected to an explosion is simply unbelievable,” his uncle said.

Nisar’s mother added, “My son has always been law-abiding, and the accusations against him are beyond comprehension.”

University under investigation

Following the blast, officials from Delhi Police and the Crime Branch visited Al-Falah University’s Okhla campus. The authorities questioned staff, reviewed records, and inspected any potential links to the attack.

The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) immediately suspended Al-Falah University as a precautionary measure. The suspension will remain in effect until the investigation clarifies the university’s involvement, if any, in terror-related activities.

Security agencies have stepped up checks across educational institutions and public spaces, reflecting serious concerns about urban terrorism. Students and faculty at Al-Falah have been advised to cooperate fully during the inquiry.

Students caught in limbo

EdexLive reported that students at Al-Falah University are facing distress over academic uncertainty. Enrolled students have received no communication regarding future classes or online options, creating anxiety over potential academic fallout.

Dr. Dhruv Chauhan of the Indian Medical Association (IMA) expressed concern, urging authorities to protect students’ careers. Innocent students should not suffer for the deeds of others, he said, suggesting relocation of uninvolved students to other universities.

Al-Falah University had already been in the spotlight for controversies, including suspending interns demanding proper stipends and a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) show-cause notice for falsely claiming Grade A accreditation.

Fear and uncertainty loom

The arrest and university suspension have left students and families anxious about the future. With investigations ongoing, the focus remains on safeguarding innocent students’ academic and professional prospects while authorities continue probing terror links.
