State Central Library, Thiruvananthapuram, under the Department of Higher Education, Government of Kerala, has invited applications for admission to the 6-month Certificate Course in Library & Information Science being offered by it.

The course duration includes 4 months of learning and 2 months for acquiring practical skills under the ‘earn while you learn’ scheme, when the students (except departmental candidates) are eligible to receive a remuneration of Rs.900/- per month.

Eligibility: Applicant should have passed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination / its equivalent with eligibility for higher studies in case of grading.

Selection: A rank list will be prepared based on the marks/grades obtained by the applicants in the qualifying examination, by the committee constituted by the government. No weightage will be given for higher/additional qualifications.

Hostel facilities and travel concessions are not available.

Seats: There are 41 seats for the course, distributed as follows: General Merit- 14, Economically Weaker Sections-4, Kerala Ministerial Subordinate Service- 2, Library Employees- 1, Lakshadweep Candidates- 2, Kannada Knowing Candidates- 3, Tamil Knowing Candidates- 2, SC Candidates- 3, ST Candidates- 1, Ezhava- 2, Muslim- 2, Latin Catholic- 1, SIUC and converted Christian from SC/ST- 1, Backward Hindus- 2, Handicapped Candidates- 1 (Total- 41).

Course Fee: The total fee for the course is Rs. 650/-, inclusive of Registration Fees, Tuition fees, Caution Deposit and Examination Fees. SC/ST students are exempted from paying the course fee. They need to pay only an amount of Rs. 200/- towards Caution Deposit.

Course Content: C.L.I.Sc Course comprises of six papers, namely (i) Library Organisation and Management, (ii) Library Classification & Cataloguing (Theory), (iii) Library Classification ( Practice), (iv) Library Cataloguing (Practice), (v) Information Sources & Services, (vi) Information Technology.

Examination: A written examination for the six papers will be conducted on completion of the six-month course. Each paper will be of 2 hours’ duration. Theory papers will carry 100 marks each, and practical papers will be for 50 marks. Total marks for the written examination will be 500.
