This year, CBSE implemented the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 board examinations

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has shared the correct Physics answer book with a Class 12 student, Vedant, after he alleged that the board had earlier sent him another student’s answer sheet for evaluation review.
The issue surfaced after Vedant applied for a photocopy of his Physics answer sheet through CBSE’s official post-result portal on May 19, following what he described as unexpectedly low marks in the subject.
The Mismatch Allegation
On May 23, Vedant claimed on social media platform X that the Physics answer book emailed to him by CBSE did not belong to him. According to the student, the handwriting in the scanned answer sheet was completely different from his own.
His post quickly went viral, drawing more than three million views and over 40,000 likes. Several other students also came forward online with similar complaints regarding discrepancies in answer sheets and marks awarded after the Class 12 board results.
The controversy triggered widespread concern among students and parents, especially because CBSE introduced a new digital evaluation process this year.
CBSE Says Matter Was Taken on “Top Priority”
Following the backlash, CBSE stated that the issue was being handled on “top priority” and that a dedicated team had been assigned to monitor the matter.
The board maintained that students’ interests remain its highest priority and assured that necessary corrective steps would be taken if any discrepancy was found.
Latest Update: Correct Answer Sheet Shared
In the latest development, CBSE emailed Vedant his correct Physics answer book and informed him that his result would be updated after a fresh evaluation.
“Please find attached your correct answer book for Physics. Your result will be updated based on the new marks of Physics shortly,” the email sent to the student stated.
The move appears to confirm that the earlier answer sheet shared with Vedant was incorrect.
Questions Over CBSE’s New OSM Evaluation System
This year, CBSE implemented the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system for Class 12 board examinations. Under the new system, answer scripts are scanned digitally and evaluated onscreen instead of through traditional manual checking.
Since the declaration of results, many students have alleged that they received lower-than-expected marks under the new system. Some also pointed to their significantly higher scores in competitive exams such as Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), arguing that the discrepancy raised concerns about the board’s evaluation process.
Apart from evaluation complaints, students and parents also reported technical glitches on CBSE’s post-result services portal. Some users claimed that the fee displayed for obtaining photocopies of answer sheets fluctuated abnormally — from as low as Re 1 to over Rs 60,000 — due to apparent technical errors.
While CBSE has said that concerns over marks arise every year after results are announced, the latest mismatch case has intensified scrutiny over the newly introduced digital evaluation system.
