Vadakkanchery: Even though they speak Bhojpuri language at home, as soon as they reach school these Bihari native siblings fluently speak Malayalam with everyone. Geethanjali and Poornima from seventh grade, Archana of fifth grade and Ashish studying in 3rd grade of Ambalapuram Desha Vidyalayam are children of Mandusah and Jyoti Devi, who hail from a nondescript village in Arrah district of Bihar.
Mandusah started working for a private tyre company in Athani years ago. He later brought his family here. The children were brought to the school by the teachers after they came to know about the hardships faced by them and the family.

The students showed remarkable success in studies. Geethanjali and Poornima secured the first and third positions in the district level ‘Vigyan Sagar’ examination conducted by the Hindi Teachers Association. Now, the children make use of their leisure time to learn Malayalam songs and poems.
There are 30 non-Keralite students learning at the Ambalapuram Desha Vidyalayam. They are all children of migrant labourers.
