The Radiation Medicine Centre of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) has invited applications for 2 M.Sc. courses under the aegis of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed-to-be-university, Mumbai. The courses are (i) M.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine Technology and Hospital Radiopharmacy) (NMT & HRP), (ii) M.Sc. (Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology) (NM & MIT).

The Nuclear Medicine Technology and Hospital Radiopharmacy course equips candidates for working as Nuclear Medicine Technologists/Radiopharmacist / Faculty in Nuclear Medicine Centres and Medical Cyclotron Facilities. The Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology course equips candidates for working as Nuclear Medicine Technologists/Faculty in Nuclear Medicine Centres / Teaching institutes. The courses will comprise a full-time schedule of lectures, demonstrations, practicals, and related apprenticeships. Candidates should not hold any other job during the course or join any other programme.

Duration of the courses is 2 Academic Years (2026-2028), consisting of four semesters. There will be an examination at the end of every semester.

Eligibility: (i) NMT & HRP course: Applicant should hold a B.Sc. in any discipline with Chemistry as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics / Biology as subjects in the H.S.C. level OR B.Pharm. with a minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in Science Subjects at B.Sc. / B.Pharm level (ii) Eligibility for NM & MIT course: Applicant should hold a B.Sc. in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, or Biotechnology (with Physics or Chemistry as one of the subjects in B.Sc.) OR B.Sc. in Nuclear Medicine from AERB recognised institute with minimum 60% marks in aggregate in Science Subjects.

For both courses, (i) Eligibility obtained through correspondence courses will not be considered, (ii) Age limit: Applicant should not be more than 35 years as on 1st May 2026. The upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST, by 3 years for OBC, by 10 years for the PWD category and for Sponsored candidates. iii) Number of seats: Maximum 10 (5 Non-Sponsored and 5 Sponsored).

Only Indian Nationals can apply. Candidates can be sponsored by Institutions/Hospitals with a running Nuclear Medicine Facility, Universities, Government / semi-government institutes, with the prospect of immediate employment in the same Institution. The sponsoring institute should have AERB approval or should provide an undertaking that they are in the process of obtaining approval for starting a Nuclear Medicine Facility, and provide sufficient documents to support such a claim and confirm that they are in need of candidates with M.Sc. (NM&MIT) or M.Sc. (NMT & HRP). Only the candidate providing a sponsorship letter will be considered for the sponsored category.

One seat is reserved for SC/ST/OBC candidates either from the Sponsored or the Non- sponsored category. The MSc course and the related evaluation process will be conducted in the English language.

Common Admission Test (CAT): A Common Admission Test for both courses will be conducted and will comprise 150 Multiple Choice Questions. The CAT syllabus will be drawn from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Biology at the level of Standard XII or equivalent. Minimum marks to qualify for CAT will be 50%. The CAT will be held tentatively on 03.05.2026 at Anushaktinagar, Mumbai – 400094. CAT questions will be in the English language. 

Selection: A merit list of candidates qualifying the CAT will be made, and candidates will be called in order of merit to attend the Counselling Session. A separate merit list will be drawn for Sponsored Candidates. The result of the written test will be declared on the same day on the website. The counselling session for shortlisted candidates will be scheduled within 3 days of the written test. The candidate should personally attend the counselling session. The course is expected to start by August 2026, subject to approval received from the Competent Authority. Candidates desiring admission need to undergo a medical test in the BARC hospital to determine suitability for the course.

Stipend: For M.Sc. Courses, a stipend of Rs. 18,500/- p.m. is given to each Non-Sponsored candidate. No stipend is admissible to sponsored candidates.

Fees: No fees for the courses will be charged by BARC. However, a one-time enrolment fee of Rs. 11,000/- or as prescribed by Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) will have to be paid for the M.Sc. courses. A caution deposit of Rs. 2000/- will have to be remitted by the selected candidates to BARC.

Bond: Selected candidates will have to execute a bond to complete the course for a period of 2 years. A student who fails to complete the course will be liable to pay to the Government a sum equivalent to the aggregate amount of stipend received by him/her during the duration of the course, along with interest thereon.
