OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is preparing to expand its footprint in India with the launch of its New Delhi office later this year. Ahead of this milestone, the firm has already begun its hiring process in India, signalling the start of its OpenAI India careers drive.

According to the official listings on OpenAI’s website, candidates can view OpenAI job openings in India by heading to the “Careers” section and filtering results by location. This ensures applicants only see positions linked to the upcoming OpenAI India office.

At present, there are three openings in India, all for the position of Account Director, though each belongs to a different division — Digital Narratives, Large Enterprise, and Strategics — with all roles linked to sales.

The application process is straightforward. Candidates need to select the “Apply Now” option next to the role of interest, which redirects them to a separate page containing the job requirements. From there, applicants can provide their details and submit their forms.

OpenAI has set a cap on submissions, limiting each candidate to a maximum of five applications within a 180-day period.

Each role comes with specific experience requirements. The Digital Narratives position requires at least seven years of experience in selling software platforms or Software as a Service (SaaS). For the Large Enterprise role, the benchmark is 10 years, while the Strategics position demands 14 years of prior experience.

All three are full-time hybrid roles, allowing employees flexibility without the need for daily office attendance. The positions are designed around building long-term strategic partnerships with defined business targets.

India holds special importance for OpenAI, with the country being its second-largest ChatGPT user base after the United States.

CEO Sam Altman recently revealed that he will be visiting India in September, ahead of the office launch in the capital. Sharing an update on X, Altman wrote: “We are opening our first office in India later this year! And I'm looking forward to visiting next month. AI adoption in India has been amazing to watch - ChatGPT users grew 4x in the past year - and we are excited to invest much more in India!”

The firm has been strengthening its services for Indian users with tailor-made plans. Earlier this month, OpenAI introduced the ChatGPT Go plan in India, priced at ₹399 per month. The service provides ten times higher limits on messages, image generation, and memory retention on ChatGPT 5, along with premium features such as project creation, task tracking, and custom GPTs.

With OpenAI India expansion already underway and active OpenAI India jobs open for application, the company is clearly gearing up for deeper engagement in one of its fastest-growing markets.
