OpenAI introduces affordable ChatGPT Go plan in India with higher usage limits, image creation, and UPI payments. Learn more!

OpenAI has introduced a new ChatGPT Go subscription in India, priced at ₹399 per month. The plan aims to offer Indian users wider access to premium features like higher usage limits, image creation, file uploads and extended memory—at a far more affordable rate compared to the Plus option.
Nick Turley, Vice President and Head of ChatGPT, announced that India will be the first country to receive this rollout before it expands globally. He noted that affordability and localised payment choices were the most frequent requests from users in the country, and the Go tier has been created to directly address these needs.
Announcing the launch on X (formerly Twitter), Turley wrote, “We just launched ChatGPT Go in India, a new subscription tier that gives users in India more access to our most popular features: 10x higher message limits, 10x more image generations, 10x more file uploads, and 2x longer memory compared with our free tier. All for Rs. 399.”
He continued, “All users in India will now see prices for subscriptions in Indian Rupees, and can now pay through UPI. Making ChatGPT more affordable has been a key ask from users! We’re rolling out Go in India first and will learn from feedback before expanding to other countries.”
The Go tier offers a massive boost over the free version, including tenfold increases in message, image, and file upload allowances, along with double the memory length. Positioned as a middle ground, it is designed for students, freelancers and professionals who find the free plan restrictive but do not require the full range of tools available in Plus or Pro.
In terms of ChatGPT subscription price in India, the company now provides four options: the free plan, the new Go plan at ₹399, Plus at ₹1,999, and Pro at ₹19,999. The Go plan is particularly aimed at bridging the affordability gap while giving users enough flexibility for everyday use.
A major update alongside this launch is the adoption of Indian rupee pricing across all tiers, removing the hassle of currency conversion. The inclusion of UPI support—India’s most widely used digital payment system—marks a first for OpenAI and underlines its intent to localise services for Indian users.
