Tamil Nadu Maritime Academy (TNMA), an autonomous body under Govt. of Tamil Nadu, approved by Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India, has invited applications for admission to Pre-Sea Training Course for General Purpose Ratings, which qualifies candidates to serve as Ratings onboard merchant navy ships (Indian and foreign ships)

Course duration is 6 months (25 weeks). There are 40 seats for the course.

Eligibility: Applicants should be unmarried male possessing one of the following qualifications.

  1. Pass in 10th standard with Science, Mathematics as subjects with aggregate of 40% marks. 
  2. Pass in 2-Year I.T.I. course with minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year
  3. Passed Diploma or Degree with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Standard with Science, Mathematics as subjects.

Applicant should have secured 40% marks in English in 10th standard exams.

Age: Applicant must have completed 17 ½ years but should be below 25 years as on 1 January 2021 in respect of candidates who have passed X standard and ITI Course. The maximum age limit will be 27 years for those having Degree or Diploma qualification. Upper age limit is relaxable up to 5 years for SC/ST applicants and 3 years for OBC (NCL). The maximum age limit prescribed above can be relaxed by one year for admission for the academic year 2020-21, in respect of Gen/SC/ST/OBC.

Applicant must be in possession of original passport and birth certificate when applying.

Application fee of Rs.750/- may be paid online or by way of Demand Draft taken form a Nationalized Bank in favour of ‘Tamil Nadu Maritime Academy’ payable at Thoothukkudi.

Final selection will be based on percentage of marks scored in 10th standard and sight test and medical examination to be conducted by D.G Shipping approved doctors.

Course fee: Rs.1,50,000/- to be paid in one installment before admission.

The course will commence on 4th January 2021.
