Indian Army has invited applications from unmarried male and unmarried female Law Graduates under the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Entry Scheme course commencing in October 2025, for grant of Short Service Commission in the Indian Army for Judge Advocate General Branch.

Applicant should satisfy the Nationality condition given in the detailed Notification at https://joinindianarmy.nic.in/

Age Limit

Applicant should be between 21 to 27 years of age as on 01 July, 2025. Applicant should have been born not earlier than 02 July 1998 and not later than 01 July 2004; both dates inclusive.

Educational Qualification

Applicant should hold LLB Degree (three years professional after graduation or five years after 10 plus 2) from a College/University recognized by Bar Council of India, with minimum 55% aggregate marks in the related examination. In addition, applicants including LLM qualified and LLM appearing candidates should have a score in CLAT PG 2024.

Applicant should be eligible for registration as an advocate with Bar Council of India/State. Only those holding LLB degree and Mark sheet are eligible to apply subject to meeting other educational qualifications.

There are 8 vacancies, 4 for men and 4 for women. 

Training

Selected candidates will be detailed for Pre-Commission training at OTA, Chennai subject to the number of available vacancies and meeting all eligibility criteria. All candidates who successfully complete training at OTA, Chennai will be awarded ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Defence Management and Strategic Studies’ by University of Madras. The final allocation of Arms/Services will be made prior to passing out of Gentlemen /Lady Cadets from OTA.

Cost of Training

The entire cost of training at OTA is at Government expense. In case the Lady/Gentlemen cadet is withdrawn from training academy on grounds specified in the Notification, he/she will be liable to refund cost of training @ Rs. 17,561/- per week (as on 2024) and as notified from time to time. The cost of training, borne by State, will be recovered from cadets withdrawing for personal reasons.

Candidates will neither be allowed to marry during the period of training nor will he/she be allowed to live with parents/guardians. Candidates must not marry until they complete the full training at OTA.

Tenure of Engagement

Short Service Commission will be granted to Men and Women in the regular Army for 14 years - for an initial period of 10 years extendable by a further period of 04 years. Male & Female officers who are willing to continue to serve in Indian Army after the expiry of period of ten years of Short Service Commission may, if eligible and suitable in all respects, be considered for the grant of Permanent Commission (PC) in the 10th year of their Short Service Commission in accordance with the relevant policies as issued from time to time. Those SSC officers (Male & Female) who are not selected for grant of PC but are otherwise considered fit and suitable, will be given options to continue as SSCOs for a total period of 14 years (including the initial tenure of 10 years) on expiry of which they will be released from Indian Army.

SSCOs (Male & Female Officers), other than those who have undergone or are undergoing any other specialised course of such nature, who are desirous of leaving the service after completion of five years’ service may, during the fifth year of service, apply to the Army HQs for release. Application

Selection

Integrated HQ of MoD (Army) will shortlist applicants for Service Selection Board (SSB) Interview to be held at one of the Selection Centres at Prayagraj (UP), Bhopal(MP), Bangalore (Karnataka) and Jalandhar (PB). Call up letter for SSB interview will be issued by respective Selection Centre on candidate’s registered e-mail id and SMS only. Candidates will be put through two stage selection procedure. Those who clear Stage I will go to Stage II. Those who fail in stage I will be returned on the same day. Duration of SSB interview is five days. This will be followed by a medical examination for the candidates who get recommended after Stage II. Candidates recommended by the SSB and declared medically fit, will be issued joining letter for training in the order of merit, depending on the number of vacancies available, subject to meeting all eligibility criteria.
