The Indian automotive market continued its strong tilt towards SUVs in 2025, with manufacturers rolling out a wide mix of all-new models across segments. From compact urban SUVs to premium electric flagships, the year saw several important nameplates making their India debut. This round-up focuses only on completely new launches introduced during the year, starting with the most talked-about arrivals.
2025 Tata Sierra
Tata Motors finally brought back the Sierra nameplate in a modern form, announcing an introductory starting price of ₹11.49 lakh. While its design pays tribute to the original Sierra, the new model adopts contemporary styling cues, including LED lighting and new alloy wheels. Inside, it becomes the first Tata SUV to feature a triple-screen layout, along with a JBL sound system and an electronic parking brake. Buyers can choose from three engine options, paired with manual or automatic gearboxes.
Mahindra XEV 9S
Mahindra entered the premium electric SUV space with the XEV 9S, which was launched at introductory prices between ₹19.95 lakh and ₹29.45 lakh. Positioned as the electric equivalent of the XUV700, it offers seating for up to seven occupants and features EV-specific design elements. The SUV is loaded with features such as ventilated seats for both rows, a panoramic sunroof, triple screens, Level-2 ADAS and a 540-degree camera. It is offered with three battery packs, delivering a claimed range of up to 679 km in rear-wheel-drive form.
2025 Tesla Model Y
Tesla finally entered the Indian market in 2025 with the launch of the Model Y, priced between ₹59.89 lakh and ₹67.89 lakh as a fully imported offering. These prices do not include Tesla’s Full Self-Driving package, which costs an additional ₹6 lakh. The electric SUV features a large central touchscreen, a premium audio system, a 360-degree camera and Tesla’s full ADAS suite. While battery specifications remain undisclosed, the Model Y is offered in rear-wheel-drive form with a claimed range of up to 622 km.
2025 Skoda Kodiaq
The second-generation Skoda Kodiaq returned to the Indian market in 2025, with prices ranging from ₹46.89 lakh to ₹48.69 lakh, later revised to ₹39.99 lakh to ₹45.96 lakh following GST adjustments. Offered only with a petrol engine, the SUV is available in two variants and focuses heavily on comfort and safety. Key features include a large touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, tri-zone climate control, nine airbags and a 360-degree camera. It shares its powertrain with the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line.
2025 Hyundai Venue
Hyundai refreshed its compact SUV portfolio with the launch of the second-generation Venue, priced between ₹7.90 lakh and ₹15.51 lakh. The new model adopts sharper styling inspired by larger Hyundai SUVs, while the cabin sees a major overhaul with premium additions such as ventilated front seats, twin 12.3-inch displays and a 360-degree camera system. Powertrain options remain unchanged, with petrol and diesel engines carried over, but Hyundai has added a diesel automatic option.
Kia Syros
The Kia Syros was launched soon after its debut at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, with prices starting at ₹9 lakh and going up to ₹17.80 lakh, which later dropped to ₹8.67 lakh to ₹15.94 lakh following GST cuts. Positioned between the Sonet and Seltos, the Syros stands out with its distinctive styling and extensive feature list. Highlights include ventilated front and rear seats, dual 12.3-inch screens, a panoramic sunroof, six airbags and Level-2 ADAS. Engine options are shared with the Kia Sonet.
Tata Harrier EV
Tata expanded its electric portfolio with the launch of the Harrier EV, priced between ₹21.49 lakh and ₹30.23 lakh. First showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, the electric Harrier is currently the only Tata SUV to offer an all-wheel-drive setup. It comes equipped with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, a digital driver’s display, dual-zone climate control, TPMS and Level-2 ADAS. Two battery pack options are available, offering a claimed range of up to 627 km.
Maruti Victoris
Launched with prices ranging from ₹10.50 lakh to ₹19.99 lakh, the Maruti Victoris strengthens the brand’s presence in the mid-size SUV segment alongside the Grand Vitara. It stands out as Maruti’s most feature-packed SUV so far, offering ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, 64-colour ambient lighting, Level-2 ADAS and a gesture-controlled powered tailgate. Powertrain options are shared with the Grand Vitara, although the CNG version uses an underfloor-mounted tank.
2025 Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line
Volkswagen introduced the Tiguan R-Line in India as a fully imported model, pricing it at ₹49 lakh, which was later revised to ₹45.73 lakh after GST changes. Now positioned as the brand’s flagship SUV, it is offered exclusively as a five-seater and features sporty R-Line styling. Equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, tri-zone climate control, dual wireless phone chargers, nine airbags and ADAS. Power comes from a 2-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and an AWD system.
VinFast VF6 And VF7
VinFast expanded its presence in India in 2025 with the launch of two all-new electric SUVs, the VF6 and VF7, which were first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier in the year. The VF6 entered the market with prices ranging from ₹16.49 lakh to ₹18.29 lakh, while the larger and more premium VF7 was introduced at prices between ₹20.89 lakh and ₹25.49 lakh.
Both five-seat electric SUVs share a closely related design inside and out, along with a largely common feature set. Key highlights include a large touchscreen infotainment system, a head-up display, dual-zone climate control, seven airbags, Level-2 advanced driver assistance systems and a 360-degree camera.
In terms of powertrains, the VF6 is equipped with a 59.6 kWh battery pack that delivers a claimed driving range of up to 468 km. The VF7, positioned as the more versatile offering, is available with two battery pack options and can be specified with either a single-motor or dual-motor setup, offering a claimed range of up to 532 km.
