Alto leads as best-selling model; SUVs gain traction
Among the 3 crore vehicles sold domestically, the Alto remains the flagship model with over 47 lakh units, solidifying its status as India’s preferred compact car. It is trailed by the Wagon R at around 34 lakh units and the Swift with over 32 lakh units sold. Reflecting shifting consumer preferences, compact SUVs such as the Brezza and the recently introduced Fronx rank among Maruti’s top ten bestsellers, signalling increasing demand for utility vehicles.
Market potential remains vast with low penetration
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, expressed gratitude for this milestone and emphasised the continuing opportunity in India’s relatively low vehicle penetration market, currently at approximately 33 cars per 1,000 people. This suggests robust potential for future growth as urbanisation, income levels, and infrastructure development advance.
Diverse portfolio caters to evolving customer needs
Today, Maruti Suzuki offers over 170 variants across 19 models, featuring multiple powertrain and transmission options tailored to Indian consumers' diverse demands across rural and urban regions.
