Automotive giant Mahindra & Mahindra has decided to get a head start on the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) reforms by passing on the benefits to customers starting today. Though the revised tax slabs are set to take effect from September 22, Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra announced via a post on X that the company would begin offering discounts immediately.

In his post, Mahindra shared an image with the message, “Everyone said 22nd Sept, we said NOW. AVAIL GST BENEFITS STARTING 6th SEPT. GET UPTO RS 1.56 LAKH,” adding the comment, “Action. Not just promises. Thank you, Team @Mahindra_Auto."

Significant savings on popular models

Mahindra's ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) models are set to see significant savings.

The XUV3XO (Diesel) now offers a benefit of up to ₹1.56 lakh, as its GST rate drops from 31% to 18%.

The XUV3XO (Petrol) and THAR 2WD (Diesel) are also included, with savings of up to ₹1.40 lakh and ₹1.35 lakh, respectively.

Other popular models like the Bolero/Neo and Scorpio Classic will see reductions of up to ₹1.27 lakh and ₹1.01 lakh.

Larger SUVs, including the Scorpio-N, Thar Roxx, and XUV700, which previously had a tax rate of 48%, will now be taxed at 40%, leading to benefits of up to ₹1.45 lakh, ₹1.33 lakh, and ₹1.43 lakh, respectively.

Broader impact of GST reforms on Auto sector

Mahindra praised the government's decision to maintain the 5% GST rate on electric vehicles (EVs), calling it a "vital step" for India's clean mobility mission. The broader automotive sector is also expected to benefit from the tax reforms.

According to an analysis by Crisil Intelligence, the revised GST rates will boost affordability and increase domestic sales.

Prices for entry-level hatchbacks, such as the Wagon R, and premium hatchbacks like the Swift, are expected to drop by about 8.5%. Mid-size cars and SUVs, including the Creta and Brezza, may become cheaper by 3.5%, while larger vehicles like the XUV 700 could see a price decline of around 6.7%.

Most two-wheelers are also expected to become more affordable, with prices dropping by nearly 7.8%.
