LPG price shock: Commercial cylinder rates jump for third straight month | Check city-wise rates
The latest LPG price revision has increased the cost of commercial cylinders for the third consecutive month, significantly affecting hotels, restaurants, roadside eateries and businesses dependent on cooking gas.
In New Delhi, the price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has risen by Rs 993 to Rs 3,071.50.
Officials and market observers linked the hike to global crude oil supply concerns caused by continuing tensions in the Middle East and uncertainty around maritime trade routes near the Strait of Hormuz.
Despite signs of easing tensions after the reported pause in “Project Freedom”, uncertainty over energy supplies continues to affect fuel prices globally.
Domestic LPG cylinder prices remain unchanged
While commercial cylinder prices have surged, domestic LPG cylinder rates have remained unchanged for now.
The standard 14.2-kg household LPG cylinder is currently priced at:
- Delhi – Rs 913
- Mumbai – Rs 912.50
- Chennai – Rs 928.50
- Kolkata – Rs 939
- Hyderabad – Rs 965
- Bengaluru – Rs 915.50
The 14.2-kg cylinder remains the most commonly used cooking gas cylinder in Indian households.
Lightweight and specialised cylinders also available
Oil companies have also expanded the availability of lightweight and specialised LPG cylinders.
The 10-kg XTRALITE cylinder, designed for easier handling, is currently priced at Rs 652.50.
Small 5-kg cylinders are available in different variants ranging from Rs 339 to Rs 826.
These modern cylinders include features such as:
- Lightweight design
- Easier portability
- Visible gas level indicators
Portable 2-kg cylinders meant for travel and temporary usage are priced between Rs 350.50 and Rs 1,085.50.
Hotels and industries face higher fuel burden
Large hotels, restaurants and industrial units are among the worst affected by the latest revision.
Prices for 47.5-kg industrial cylinders currently range up to around Rs 7,730 depending on category and usage.
Meanwhile, the largest 425-kg industrial cylinders are priced between Rs 68,707.50 and Rs 69,209.
Experts said rising commercial fuel costs could eventually affect food prices, transportation costs and operational expenses across sectors.

- Mumbai – Rs 50
- Chennai – Rs 50

Government tightens ‘One Household, One Connection’ rule
Amid supply concerns, the government has also strengthened enforcement of the “One Household, One Connection” policy.
Under revised rules issued earlier this year:
- Households with PNG connections may have to surrender domestic LPG connections
- New LPG connections may not be issued where PNG service is available
- Authorities may stop LPG supply after three months if households fail to switch to PNG despite availability
- Officials said the move aims to prevent black-marketing of subsidised LPG cylinders and ensure supplies reach households that genuinely require them.
Middle East tensions continue to influence fuel market
Fuel markets remain sensitive to developments involving the US, Iran and shipping routes near the Strait of Hormuz.
Although diplomatic discussions are continuing and Iran has indicated willingness to support commercial maritime operations, concerns over supply disruptions persist.
Energy analysts said any prolonged instability in the region could continue impacting LPG, CNG and petroleum prices in India over the coming weeks.
