Accused in Mynagappally accident involved in sandalwood smuggling; co-accused sacked from job

Kollam: Police are currently questioning two individuals in connection with a tragic hit-and-run incident in Kollam's Mynagappally, where a scooterist was killed after being run over by a car. The vehicle, driven by Ajmal from Veluthamanal in Karunagappally, was also occupied by Dr. Maya Sreekutty. They are being interrogated by a team led by Kollam Rural SP P.K.M. Sabu.
Criminal history and conflicting statements
The Rural SP has confirmed that Ajmal has a criminal background, including previous cases of sandalwood smuggling and fraud. It has been reported that Ajmal and the doctor were drinking prior to the incident. Locals have suggested that a third person was present in the car but Ajmal claims this individual left the vehicle two kilometres before the accident.
The car involved in the accident was registered in the name of a local resident from Edakulangara. Locals also alleged that Dr. Sreekutty requested to move the car after it struck the scooter. The police are also examining these claims in detail and will decide on further action once all witness statements are recorded.
Doctor removed from position
In light of the incident, Valiyath Hospital in Karunagappally has announced that Dr. Sreekutty, has been dismissed from her position of temporary doctor at institute. She hails from Thiruvananthapuram,
