
Kollam: A person was taken into custody in connection with the grisly accident at Mynagappally, Kollam, in which a woman was killed. According to Sasthamkotta police, the person taken into custody in connection with the incident is Ajmal of Karunagappally. The woman, who got killed in the accident was Kunjumol of Mynagappally.
The incident took place around 5.45 pm on Sunday at Mynagappally as the car driven by Ajmal hit two women riding a scooter. Due to the impact of the hit, the women fell down and Kunjumol fell right under the car. Seeing people rushing to the spot following the accident, Ajmal, in panic, drove the car over Kunjumol to flee from the spot. Eye witnesses said that the back wheel of the car rolled over the neck of Kunjumol.
Though she was rushed to a private hospital, Kunjumol’s life could not be saved.
It is said that, a female doctor of a private hospital too was with Ajmal in the car at the time of accident. She was taken into custody by the police. But, Ajmal had fled from the scene and was later apprehended by the police from the house of his friend at Karunagappally.
Meanwhile, Kerala State Human Rights Commission has registered a suo moto case in connection with the incident. Commission member VK Beena Kumari has asked Kollam district police chief to submit a report regarding the accident within two weeks. “To know that the woman inside the car which hit the scooter , is a doctor who knows the seriousness of the incident, surprises me”, she said. It is said that both Ajmal and the doctor were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. The Commission has registered the case based on media reports.
