Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department has issued alerts to various districts in Kerala in view of possible heavy rainfall in the coming days.
Red alerts (extremely heavy rainfall) have been sounded for Monday in Ernakulam district, and in Idukki, Kannur districts for Tuesday. Rainfall of more than 204.4 mm within a 24-hour period is considered extremely heavy by the IMD.
Orange alert (very heavy rainfall):
03-07-2023: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
04-07-2023: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kasaragod
05-07-2023: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
06-07-2023: Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kasaragod
Rainfall measuring between 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm is defined as very heavy by the IMD.
Even though an orange alert was issued for Kozhikode district on 5 July, the IMD alerted possibility of rainfall equivalent to that of a red alert.
Yellow alert (heavy rainfall):

04-07-2023: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam
05-07-2023: Kollam
06-07-2023: Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad
07-07-2023: Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod
Rainfall between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm is considered heavy.
