Palakkad: A man drowned in a pond at Kunissery village in Palakkad on Saturday noon. The deceased was identified as Murali (38), a native of Nenmara.

Murali, a worker at a wood mill, had gone to the water body to take a bath after work. But unfortunately he drowned. His friends jumped into the water to search for him, as  they found his clothes lying on the banks of the pond. 

The man was lifted from the pond and was rushed to the Alathur taluk hospital, but his life could not be saved. The body is currently preserved in the hospital morgue. A postmortem will be conducted. The body will be cremated on Sunday.

Murali is survived by wife and three children.
