Millions of YouTube users are puzzled by a strange upload claiming a 140-year runtime.

A mysterious YouTube video uploaded on January 5, 2026, has left viewers around the world scratching their heads. The video, posted by the channel @ShinyWR, claims a duration of 140 years, but when played, it shows a runtime of just 12 hours. Despite its confusing nature, the clip has already been viewed nearly two million times and attracted roughly 28,000 comments.
The upload features a blank screen with no audio or visual content. Its thumbnail displays the improbable length of 140 years, while the video description contains Arabic symbols, which appear to translate to: "Come, meet me in hell". Screenshots of the video quickly circulated on social media, sparking widespread discussion and speculation.
Origins and speculation
The true purpose of the video remains unclear. Some users have suggested that it may be a test channel for YouTube, or part of an alternate reality game (ARG). The channel, reportedly operating from North Korea, joined the platform on July 31, 2023. ShinyWR has also uploaded other unusually long videos, including a 294-hour video and a 300-hour stream.
"I think it's youtube testing channel similar to a channel with weird sounds," one user wrote on Threads.
A history of long videos
While 140 years is an extreme case, YouTube has previously seen videos of extraordinary lengths. The current record-holder is a 596-hour video uploaded by Jonathan Harchick in 2011. Other examples include a 23-day-long upload and a five-second video artificially stretched to 19 hours.
"I can't imagine the amount of commercials throughout that video or how much money whoever posted it is going to make off that video," another user wondered.
Public reaction
Many viewers have been left baffled. "What on Earth. why is there a 140-year-long video on YouTube," one user commented. Another added: "Probably just some smart kid with a weekend to spare getting a little fame off YouTube. Idk how he overloaded the YouTube 128gb/12 hour limit though."
Some users expressed technical frustrations, with one saying: "Found it really weird and I was like oh might be a joke video but doesn’t even load or work for me." Others have suggested the upload is linked to a larger project or game, noting its viral spread online.
"The video length is 12hrs if you play it," one user clarified on Threads, highlighting the discrepancy between the thumbnail and the actual runtime.
Online curiosity continues
Over the years, YouTube has hosted a number of puzzling and enigmatic uploads. While some appear briefly before disappearing, others remain online for extended periods, intriguing anyone who stumbles upon them. The ShinyWR video, with its blank screen, cryptic caption, and absurdly long runtime, has captivated and confused viewers alike.
