YouTube has rolled out its Premium Lite subscription in India, introducing a more affordable alternative for viewers who prefer uninterrupted video streaming. Priced at ₹89 per month, the new plan provides ad-free playback on most videos.

Announcing the launch in a blog post, the Google-owned platform said, “Today we'll begin expanding our Premium Lite pilot to users in India. Premium Lite gives viewers a new, more affordable way to enjoy most videos on YouTube ad-free.” The company also noted that this comes as YouTube Music and Premium collectively surpassed 125 million subscribers worldwide, including trial users.

The subscription is compatible with a range of devices including smartphones, laptops, and smart TVs. While Premium Lite removes ads from most categories of videos, advertisements may still appear on Shorts, YouTube Music, and during browsing or search activity.

“The introduction of YouTube Premium Lite in India underscores YouTube's commitment to offering flexible options that cater to diverse viewer preferences, allowing users to enjoy their favorite content from a vast array of creators and genres with fewer interruptions,” the blog post reads.

YouTube has begun rolling out Premium Lite in India, with nationwide access expected in the next few weeks.

YouTube Premium Lite vs YouTube Premium

Premium Lite sits below YouTube Premium in pricing and benefits. At ₹89 per month, it is cheaper than the full Premium plan, which costs ₹149 monthly.

While Premium Lite allows ad-free viewing across categories such as fashion, gaming, news, and beauty, it does not include additional features bundled with YouTube Premium. Subscribers miss out on access to YouTube Music, offline downloads, and background play, which are all part of the standard Premium offering.
