This weekend, Google is inviting users to step into the role of filmmaker with complimentary access to Veo 3, its advanced AI-driven video creation platform. The announcement came directly from CEO Sundar Pichai, who encouraged everyone to experiment with the tool’s creative potential without facing the usual subscription fees.

The move forms part of Google’s broader strategy to encourage more users to explore its most ambitious media tool to date. Typically, Veo 3 is available only through the AI Pro subscription on the Gemini app, which costs ₹1,999 per month in India. While new subscribers can normally enjoy a one-month free trial, this marks the first occasion Google has made the platform accessible to all users, regardless of subscription status.

Pichai shared a post from Google on X (formerly Twitter), adding: “Veo 3 is now free for the weekend for everyone to try - can’t wait to see what you’ll create!”.

Google also posted: “Slide into the weekend with 3 video generations at no cost with Veo 3 in the @GeminiApp. But act fast — you have from now until Sunday, 8/24 at 10 pm PT. On your marks, get set, wheee!!”

The free trial will remain available until 10.30 am on Sunday, August 24. To access the free version, simply sign up via Gemini, choose the ‘Videos with Veo’ option, describe your idea, and your video will be ready within minutes.

Exploring Google Veo 3

Introduced at Google I/O 2025, Veo 3 has already generated global interest. It represents Google’s most sophisticated video model so far, uniquely able to produce not only visuals but also synchronised audio, including dialogue, background music, footsteps, and ambient sounds.

Marketed as a versatile creative toolkit, Veo 3 is ideal for crafting animated shorts, cinematic sequences, storyboards, or even game cutscenes. Currently, the platform responds to text-based prompts, with support for image-based prompting planned in the future, further expanding its flexibility.
