Roblox down today: What’s causing the widespread outage?

Roblox, the widely-used online platform for gaming and user-generated experiences, is currently experiencing significant service disruptions across multiple regions worldwide.

Thousands of users have reported issues with logging in, accessing the website, and playing games smoothly.

Outage monitoring site Downdetector recorded a sharp spike in complaints, with more than 29,000 reports coming from the U.S. alone. The peak of reported problems occurred around 10:21 a.m. IST. Users continue to face disruptions, with the latest data showing over 6,500 active reports globally.

According to DownDetector, approximately 65% of affected users reported issues with the website, 25% experienced server connection problems, and 10% encountered gameplay errors. In India, Roblox servers also faced disruptions, showing 504 Gateway Timeout errors, though reports remained under 500.

Roblox issued a statement confirming the issue, stating, “We are investigating an issue preventing users from accessing the website.” The outage appears to impact major U.S. cities, including Houston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, and Atlanta.

Understanding the errors:

• 9007 Error Code: This appears when a website cannot maintain a stable connection with its servers. Causes include ISP issues, weak WiFi, or VPN usage.
• 504 Gateway Timeout: This occurs when a server receives a request but does not get a timely response from another server. Possible causes include server downtime, data centre issues, or network congestion.

Gamers worldwide have expressed frustration on social media as the outage interrupts gameplay and access to the Roblox website. Roblox is actively investigating the problem to restore services.

The Roblox outage began in the early hours, with DownDetector recording around 28,000 reports at 9:50 a.m. IST. While the initial spike subsided within 20 minutes, new reports continued to emerge, indicating persistent issues.

The platform's website has been the most affected, with players unable to log in or navigate the site properly. Game servers, though less impacted, have still caused gameplay interruptions for a significant number of users. The 9007 error code, widely reported by users, highlights connectivity problems, while the 504 Gateway Timeout error points to server delays and communication issues between Roblox servers.

Roblox’s official communication emphasised that the team is working to resolve the issue, although no estimated time for resolution has been provided. The incident underscores the reliance of global users on online gaming platforms and the widespread disruption even short-term outages can cause.
