Apple has unveiled its new M5 chip, powering the 14-inch MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Apple Vision Pro. Built on advanced 3-nanometre technology, the M5 is designed to deliver faster AI performance, stronger graphics, and smoother overall computing.

The M5 features a 10-core GPU with a dedicated Neural Accelerator in each core, offering over 4 times the AI compute power of the previous M4 chip. It also includes third-generation ray tracing, boosting graphics performance by up to 45%. The 10-core CPU, made up of six efficiency cores and up to four high-performance cores, provides 15% faster multithreaded performance compared to M4.

Apple has also upgraded the Neural Engine to 16 cores and increased unified memory bandwidth to 153GB/s. This allows larger AI models to run entirely on the device, improving speed and efficiency for creative tasks, machine learning, and AI-driven apps.

Apple claims the new MacBook Pro delivers up to 3.5 times faster AI performance, 1.6 times better graphics, and up to 86 times faster AI tasks than Intel-based Macs. Compared to the original M1 chip, AI tasks are up to 6 times faster. Other highlights include up to 24 hours of battery life, a Liquid Retina XDR display, a 12MP Center Stage camera, six-speaker Spatial Audio, and macOS Tahoe with Apple Intelligence features for on-device AI.

The M5 chip makes AI workflows faster and more efficient. Apps like Draw Things and local large language models can run without relying on the cloud. Apple Vision Pro users will notice sharper visuals and smoother performance with up to 10% more rendered pixels and refresh rates up to 120Hz.

The new MacBook Pro supports up to 32GB of memory, making it easier for professionals to run multiple creative apps like Adobe Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, and AI tools simultaneously. Apple also emphasises the chip’s energy efficiency, aligning with its 2030 carbon-neutral goal.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 is available for pre-order from Apple’s website at Rs 1,69,900, with education pricing starting at Rs 1,59,999. Retail availability begins on 22 October 2025.
