Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella reveals five GPT-5 Copilot prompts reshaping workplace productivity and accountability

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has unveiled five GPT-5 prompts that could transform workplace productivity—though employees may find them somewhat intimidating if managers start using them extensively. Imagine stepping into a meeting where your manager already knows your concerns, has reviewed every progress update, and even anticipates potential risks or setbacks. For leaders, it sounds like a breakthrough in efficiency; for teams, it might feel like added scrutiny.
Nadella recently offered a rare insight into how the latest integration of GPT-5 within Microsoft 365 Copilot is reshaping his own workflow. Sharing his experience through posts on X (formerly Twitter), he explained how the AI assistant now helps him prepare for meetings, track key projects, and manage priorities with far greater ease.
“It’s been a few weeks since we brought GPT-5 to Microsoft 365 Copilot, and it’s quickly become part of my everyday workflow, adding a new layer of intelligence spanning all my apps”, Nadella wrote on X.
The CEO then outlined five prompts he frequently relies on. One helps him gauge what is most likely to be on a colleague’s mind before a meeting by reviewing their past interactions. Another compiles project updates by collating data from emails, chat messages, and meeting records—complete with KPIs, risks, competitive movements, and anticipated tough questions.
He also showcased how Copilot can be used to check accountability. For example, by asking whether the company is on schedule for a product launch, he receives a comprehensive report based on engineering progress, pilot results, and risk assessments, with a probability score attached. A further prompt analyses his diary and inbox from the previous month, categorising projects into groups, each showing the percentage of time allocated.
The fifth use case he shared enables Copilot to prepare him for meetings by examining specific emails in the context of earlier team and manager conversations.
The 5 prompts shared by Nadella are as follows:
1. Based on my prior interactions with [/person], give me 5 things likely top of mind for our next meeting.
2. Draft a project update based on emails, chats, and all meetings in [/series]: KPIs vs. targets, wins/losses, risks, competitive moves, plus likely tough questions and answers.
3. Are we on track for the [Product] launch in November? Check eng progress, pilot program results, risks. Give me a probability.
4. Review my calendar and email from the last month and create 5 to 7 buckets for projects I spend most time on, with % of time spent and short descriptions.
5. Review [/select email] + prep me for the next meeting in [/series], based on past manager and team discussions.
