The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are equipped with Apple’s most advanced camera systems yet

New Delhi: With Diwali just around the corner, photography experts have shared tips on how to capture the festival’s glowing diyas and candles perfectly using the powerful new camera system on the iPhone 17 series.
Photographer Bobby Roy highlighted the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max’s advanced Night Mode and 48MP HEIF MAX capabilities as ideal tools to bring out intricate light textures and festive details without overexposing highlights.
“With 48MP HEIF MAX, try to bring out the fine textures of lights, and festive decor by using the best quality that the iPhone 17 Pro/Pro Max provides. You can surely use the Portrait mode for that perfect soft, cinematic moments and pooja portraits,” Roy said.
He also recommended using the cinematic mode for capturing vibrant Diwali clips such as the lighting of diyas, noting that the photonic engine in all lenses effortlessly handles low light while maintaining warmth and detail.
Tips to capture better pictures
“You can slightly increase warmth and vibrancy for that golden Diwali glow in your iPhone photos. Try and keep the flash off, lower the exposure for diya shots, and look for reflections,” he added. “Focus on emotions — laughter, rituals, and light — because that’s where the real Diwali magic lives.”
Another expert, photographer Porus Vimadalal, suggested zooming in at 2x or 4x for more natural-looking portraits.
“It naturally compresses the background and makes faces look more proportionally realistic and less distorted. Tap to focus, then pull exposure down a notch. Lowering exposure in bright settings adds subtle highlights and gives a cinematic look,” Vimadalal advised.
He also recommended positioning subjects about 45 degrees to the light source for beautiful, moody lighting and using a tripod or stable surface with Night Mode for sharper night shots.
iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max
The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max are equipped with Apple’s most advanced camera systems yet, featuring three 48MP Fusion cameras that capture sharper, more detailed images. A new 48MP Telephoto camera uses a next-generation tetraprism design with a sensor 56% larger than before, improving image sharpness in bright light and adding more detail in low light.
The phones offer 4x optical zoom at 100mm—ideal for portrait photography—and a record 8x optical zoom at 200mm for greater reach and creative flexibility.
A revamped Center Stage front camera enhances selfies and video calls, while powerful video features like Dolby Vision HDR recording, 4K at 120 fps, ProRes Log, and ACES support set new standards for smartphone videography, experts said.
