Thiruvananthapuram: The CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research-NIIST) will host a national conclave on IP (Intellectual Property) Monetisation and Technology Transfer on May 14, as part of its golden jubilee celebrations. The event will take place at the institute’s campus in Thiruvananthapuram.
Dr V K Saraswat, member of NITI Aayog, will inaugurate the conclave, which will be chaired by CSIR-NIIST director Dr C Anandharamakrishnan.
The main objective of the conclave is to empower research and industrial institutions to strategically protect intellectual property, assess its market viability and convert innovations into marketable products. Special focus will be given to revenue generation through IP-based strategies such as technology licensing and monetisation.
Speaking ahead of the event, Dr C Anantharamakrishnan said, “This conclave is a reflection of CSIR-NIIST’s five decades of scientific leadership and our ongoing commitment to turning innovation into social gain. In the present knowledge economy, translating research through strong IP frameworks and collaborative models is not just important—it is essential.”
The discussions will cover emerging models based on IP monetisation, including the creation of Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) companies, equity-based fundraising and leveraging IP as equity in startup ecosystems. Participants will also explore cutting-edge IP valorisation models like incubation, spin-offs and joint ventures.
National-level experts in IP and technology transfer will participate in the event, offering valuable insights and guidance.
Interested participants can register through the CSIR-NIIST official website or by contacting the conclave convenor, senior principal scientist R S Praveen Raj at +91 99956 32522.
