Kozhikode: Social media users across the world are looking at how the new entrant, Instagram Threads, will perform, while Malayalis can’t help but wonder about the glaring resemblance of the logo of the new brand with Malayalam characters.
The logo of Threads indeed looks like Malayalam characters. If the logo is rotated 90 degrees, it looks like the character ‘Thra - ’ (sounds like the first syllable of Threads).
Even if not tilted, it looks like the Malayalam character ‘Kra’.
Many have noticed this resemblance and doubt if a Malayali was behind the logo design of the new Meta spin off.
Facebook behemoth Meta officially launched Threads, its text-based rival to Twitter, on Wednesday. Threads is the biggest challenger yet to Elon Musk-owned Twitter, which has seen a series of potential competitors emerge but not yet replace one of social media's most iconic companies, despite its epic struggles.
"Let's do this. Welcome to Threads," wrote Meta chief executive and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in his first post on the new platform.
The app was introduced as a clear spin-off of Instagram, offering it a built-in audience of more than two billion users and thus sparing it the challenge of starting from scratch.
