Pattambi: The Kerala police has instructed the general public to verify whether the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number of their mobile phones are valid or not. The cops have warned the public to refrain from using mobile phones which are black-listed. Those who buy second hand phones have to make a special note of it.
How to check whether the phone is blacklisted?
- Login to the Sanchaar Saathi app of the Department of Telecommunications.
- Click on the ‘Block Your Lost/Stolen Mobile’ option given under the Citizen Centric Services.
- A new window will open. Here, you will have to click on the ‘Application Menu’, located on the top right hand corner.
- In the drop down menu that appears, click on the ‘Applications’ option.
- Then, click on the ‘IMEI verification’ option in the next section.
- After this enter your mobile number in the space provided and confirm the OTP you receive in your phone.
- Then, verify the validity of your phone by entering the IMEI number.
Incase, you don't’ know your phone’s IMEI number, dial *#06# on your messaging app, you shall receive your IMEI number. You can obtain several details regarding your phone using the number.
There is another option as well, to know whether your phone is black-listed or not.
- First type ‘KYM’ in your phone.
- Then add your IMEI number to the alphabets and send a text to 14422.
- You will know whether your phone is black-listed or not.
A notification regarding the procedures have been put by the police on social media platforms.
