Anthropic’s AI chatbot Claude faced an outage on Monday, with the company reporting “elevated errors” affecting users.

In an update on its status page, Anthropic said it was “currently investigating this issue.”

“We have identified that the Claude API is working as intended,” the company said in its latest note. “The issues we are seeing are related to Claude.ai and with the login/logout paths.”

The disruption appeared to impact access to the web interface, while the underlying API services remained operational.

In a separate development, the Pentagon used artificial intelligence services from Anthropic, including its Claude tools, during its attack on Iran, Reuters reported on Sunday, citing a source familiar with the situation.

The use of Anthropic came shortly after the US had declared it as a supply chain risk and a threat to national security. As per Reuters, it could not determine how the tools were used in the war effort, and the Pentagon and Anthropic did not immediately return a request for comment.

Last week, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth terminated Anthropic's work with the Pentagon and other government agencies. President Donald Trump also accused Anthropic of endangering national security after its CEO, Dario Amodei, refused to back down over concerns the company’s products could be used for mass surveillance or autonomous armed drones.

The San Francisco-based company has vowed to sue over Hegseth's call to designate Anthropic a supply chain risk, an unprecedented move to apply a law intended to counter foreign threats to a U.S. company.

Anthropic said it would challenge what it called a legally unsound action “never before publicly applied to an American company.”
