Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram College of Engineering (CET) has received a patent from the central government for a ‘smart helmet’ technology that ensures safety on the road. This new invention will be an asset for the Motor Vehicles Department.
This technology was developed by Athira Rashmi N, Athira U.V, and Athira A., 2016 batch of electronics department students under the guidance of Dr R Sivakumar.
A built-in gas sensor attached to the helmet detects the presence of alcohol and turns off the vehicle. The vehicle can be turned on only if the helmet is worn. This will help eliminate the current breathalyzer system that is used to keep a check on drunken driving and make vehicle inspection more transparent.
