Leaked details suggest Apple’s foldable iPhone could have a 7.7-inch internal display and a 5.49-inch cover display

Apple’s much-anticipated entry into the foldable smartphone market could arrive in 2026, with the so-called iPhone Fold now tipped to feature a 7.7-inch internal display. While expectations have varied, this measurement is gaining traction as the most reliable figure so far.
Renowned tipster Digital Chat Station shared fresh insights on Weibo on July 25, revealing that Apple’s first foldable phone is expected to sport a 7.7-inch display when unfolded and a 5.49-inch cover display. The post highlighted that this new prototype is slightly more compact than the one observed earlier in February.
These new dimensions align with earlier reports, including predictions from well-known Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Back in March, Kuo claimed the device could feature a 7.8-inch internal screen. He also estimated that the phone would measure around 9 to 9.5 mm thick when folded, and slim down to approximately 4 to 4.5 mm when opened.
Even with this sleek profile, Apple’s foldable might still lag behind the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 in terms of thinness—Samsung’s device measures 8.9 mm folded and 4.2 mm when opened. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 5G comes with a large main display measuring 7.99-inch and a 6.48-inch sub-display.
In comparison, Apple’s more compact foldable could seem modest. However, this may be intentional. Reports suggest Apple is targeting a 4:3 aspect ratio, reminiscent of the iPad experience. This could give users a more tablet-like feel when the phone is unfolded, particularly appealing to long-time iPad users.
