Apple’s highly anticipated “Awe Dropping” event on September 9 will unveil the iPhone 17 series, with the spotlight firmly on the iPhone 17 Pro Max. Alongside the new lineup, Apple is expected to slash prices of its older iPhone models, including the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, just in time for the festive shopping season.

Price cuts likely for older models

Apple traditionally reduces the prices of previous-generation iPhones after each launch. Last year, the iPhone 15 received a ₹10,000 cut following the iPhone 16 reveal, while the iPhone 14 was discounted in 2023. This year, the iPhone 16 series is expected to become more affordable both officially and through additional festive discounts on e-commerce platforms such as Flipkart and Amazon.

The iPhone 15, launched at ₹79,900, has already seen its price reduced to ₹64,900 on Flipkart, making it one of the most attractive deals in Apple’s lineup. As a result, tech experts have predicted a gradual price drop for iPhone 16 models.

iPhone 17 expectations

Apple is expected to announce three new iPhones, a regular model and two Pro variants, with the iPhone 17 Air replacing the Plus. The Air is tipped to be just 5.5 mm thick with a 6.6-inch display, making it 0.08 inches slimmer than current models.

The base iPhone 17 could feature a larger 6.3-inch screen and a 120Hz refresh rate, a notable jump from the 60Hz panels used in earlier generations.

Alongside the iPhones, Apple is likely to update its wearables lineup, including the Apple Watch Series 11, Watch Ultra 3, and Watch SE 3. The Watch Ultra 3 is expected to be the highlight, bringing a bigger display and faster charging support.

Reports also suggest the company may unveil AirPods Pro 3, three years after the last Pro model. Apple could also use the stage to spotlight its Liquid Glass software revamp and future plans for Apple Intelligence features, such as AI-powered upgrades for Siri.

iPhone 17 Pro Max expected price

According to media reports, the iPhone 17 Pro Max could be priced at Rs. 1,64,990 for the 256GB model. This would mark an increase compared to the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which started at Rs. 1,44,990.
