Apple has quietly resolved a glitch that had prevented several new iPhone 17 users from accessing Apple Intelligence, the company’s much-hyped AI system. The issue emerged shortly after the iPhone 17 range went on sale, stopping users from downloading essential iOS 26 features tied to Apple’s next-generation AI tools.

Glitch blocking Apple Intelligence features

The problem was first reported on Apple’s community forums, where early users of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air said the Apple Intelligence option was missing from their devices. Because of this, users were unable to install or use features like Genmoji, Image Playground, and Writing Tools—core elements of Apple’s new AI experience.

Quiet server-side fix from Apple

As reported by MacRumors, Apple appears to have issued a silent server-side update that restored access to these features. The fix came without any official announcement, software update, or version number change, yet it effectively resolved the issue for most affected users.

Some users mentioned that Apple Support had confirmed the glitch and promised a swift resolution, which now seems to be in effect. The update is being applied automatically in the background, so users don’t need to manually intervene or install a patch.

Although Apple hasn’t explained the cause of the problem, such discreet fixes are common for the company, particularly for post-launch bugs that can be remedied on the server end.

Workarounds before the fix

Before the fix was rolled out, frustrated users tried various temporary solutions—switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data, changing region or language settings, and even factory resetting their devices. Some went as far as erasing their phones or restoring from backups to make Apple Intelligence appear.
