Detects and blocks malicious websites across all communications platforms including email, OTTs and SMSs in real time

Thiruvananthapuram: Bharti Airtel has launched a first-of-its-kind Fraud Detection Solution that can detect and block malicious websites across all communication platforms in real time. The innovative solution, powered by AI, aims to protect users from online fraud and scams by blocking dangerous links accessed via SMS, email, OTT messaging apps (like WhatsApp, Telegram), and social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
The service, which has been integrated across Airtel’s mobile and broadband networks, will be auto-enabled for all users at no additional cost. When a malicious website is detected, customers will be redirected to a notification page explaining the block.
The move comes in response to a sharp increase in cyber fraud across India, where digital platforms are increasingly being exploited by scammers. Beyond traditional OTP theft and spam calls, sophisticated schemes using harmful links are now targeting millions of users.
To counter this, Airtel’s engineers have developed a multi-layered intelligence platform that conducts real-time domain filtering using AI. It cross-references web traffic with global threat repositories and Airtel’s internal database of known threat actors.
“Over the last few years, we have come across several instances where unsuspecting customers have been defrauded by ingenious criminals of their hard-earned money,” said Gopal Vittal, Vice Chairman and Managing Director of Bharti Airtel. “Our engineers have tried to solve this problem through the launch of our Fraud Detection Solution. We believe this will provide our customers total peace of mind while browsing the internet without the worry of getting scammed.”
Vittal added that after six months of rigorous trials, the solution has achieved a “remarkable level of accuracy” and affirmed Airtel’s commitment to creating a scam-free network environment.
The service is currently available in Haryana circle, with a nationwide rollout planned soon.
