Sinner, who lifted the Miami title in 2024 but missed last year’s event due to a three-month doping ban, has now won three consecutive Masters 1000 titles

Miami: World number two Jannik Sinner defeated Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 6-4 on Sunday to win the Miami Open for a second time, adding the title to his recent triumph at Indian Wells Masters.
The Italian had to contend with multiple rain delays before and during the final, but remained composed to complete the coveted “Sunshine Double”. In doing so, he became the first man since Roger Federer in 2017 to win both tournaments in the same season, and the first ever to achieve the feat without dropping a set.
Sinner, who lifted the Miami title in 2024 but missed last year’s event due to a three-month doping ban, has now won three consecutive Masters 1000 titles, a run that began with victory in Paris late last season.

His success, alongside Aryna Sabalenka’s win over Coco Gauff in the women’s final, marks the first time since Novak Djokovic and Victoria Azarenka in 2016 that both the men’s and women’s Sunshine Double has been completed in the same year.

Play was disrupted early on by rain, with the match delayed for more than an hour and later halted again for 90 minutes shortly after Sinner had taken the opening set. Despite the interruptions, the 22-year-old maintained his focus throughout.
He broke Lehecka early in the first set and recovered from 0-40 in the following game with a series of strong serves to consolidate his advantage. Although the Czech saved multiple set points, Sinner eventually sealed the opener.
In the second set, Lehecka showed resilience, fending off five set points before Sinner secured the decisive break for a 5-4 lead. The Italian then closed out the match at the net to claim the title.
Lehecka, appearing in his first Masters 1000 final, is nevertheless set to reach a career-high ranking of world number 14.
