Miami: Jannik Sinner etched his name into the ATP Masters 1000 record books on Monday, surpassing a mark held by Novak Djokovic as he cruised into the fourth round of the Miami Open with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Corentin Moutet.

The Italian has now won 26 consecutive sets at the Masters 1000 level, moving clear of the previous record of 24 established by Djokovic. Sinner had pulled level with the Serbian great during his second-round victory Saturday before officially claiming the record at Hard Rock Stadium.

"I am very happy," Sinner said following the match. "This sport is unpredictable, so we try to keep attention as much as we can and we'll see what is coming in the next round."

A Dominant Streak

Sinner’s historic run began last November at the Paris Masters, where he secured the championship without dropping a single set. He maintained that flawless form through March at the BNP Paribas Open, and his two opening victories in Miami have now extended his winning streak to 13 consecutive Masters 1000 matches.

The victory keeps Sinner on track to become the first man to sweep the "Sunshine Double"—winning Indian Wells and Miami back-to-back—since Roger Federer accomplished the feat in 2017. He is next scheduled to face Alex Michelsen, who advanced Monday with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 comeback win over Alejandro Tabilo.

The world No. 2 is also in a strong position to narrow the gap in the battle for the top ranking against Carlos Alcaraz, who was eliminated Sunday in a third-round upset by Sebastian Korda.

Dramatic Upsets and Close Calls

In another action on Monday, Frances Tiafoe survived a gruelling marathon against defending champion Jakub Mensik. Tiafoe saved two match points before finally converting his seventh opportunity to secure a 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(11) victory.

The loss ends a disappointing title defence for the 20-year-old Mensik, who won his first tour-level trophy in Florida last year by defeating Djokovic in the final.

The 28-year-old Tiafoe, currently ranked No. 20, reached the fourth round in Miami for the fifth time and his first since 2022. He will move on to face Frenchman Terence Atmane, who advanced after stunning world Top 10 star Felix Auger-Aliassime in a three-set battle, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3.
