New York: Novak Djokovic, the Serbian tennis legend with 24 Grand Slam titles, has hinted at a possible exit from the US Open as he advances cautiously through the tournament. The 38-year-old defeated Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff but stressed the importance of taking “one match at a time.”

"[It is] still a very long way. For me, [the] past couple of years, I learned one thing [I need to do] right now is to take really one match at a time. And yes, of course, I'm dreaming about winning another Slam, and it would be amazing if I do it here," Djokovic said, as quoted by ATP.com.

He added: "But I can't allow myself to go that far with my thinking, because, yeah, I just need to focus on what needs to be done to win a match, next match, next challenge. The last Grand Slam I won was here, actually, two years ago, so it would be a nice journey in the past couple of years to close the circle here again."

What historic records could Djokovic lose?

Djokovic became the oldest man to reach all four major singles quarter-finals in a single season and joined Pancho Gonzalez, Ken Rosewall, and Jimmy Connors as the fourth-oldest to reach the US Open quarters. Still, a loss to fourth seed Taylor Fritz could end his run.

Who inspires Djokovic at the US Open?

Reflecting on Jimmy Connors’ semi-final run at age 39 in 1991, Djokovic said: "Just being in the same discussion or same conversation with Jimmy is obviously a huge honour of mine."

Will Djokovic extend his perfect record against Fritz?

If Djokovic defeats Fritz, he could break more records. The Serbian holds a 10-0 ATP Head2Head record over the American, but the looming challenge has him cautious.
