Kozhikode: Indian hockey stalwart P R Sreejesh has revealed that he will retire from international hockey following the upcoming Paris Olympics. 

"As I stand on the threshold of my final chapter in international hockey, my heart swells with gratitude and reflection," Sreejesh said in a post shared on X, acknowledging the support from his family, teammates, coaches, and fans throughout his journey.

The highlight of his career, Sreejesh emphasised, was securing the Olympic bronze medal for India at Tokyo 2020. "The tears, the joy, the pride – it was all worth it," he said, recalling the memorable achievement. "Thank you for believing in me," he said warmly.

The announcement of his retirement after the Paris Olympics marks the end of an era in Indian hockey. The Kerala man played a crucial role in the Indian national team's achievement of a bronze medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics.

His exceptional goalkeeping skills and leadership were instrumental in India's success on the global stage. Sreejesh was honoured with the FIH Player of the Year Award for Best Male Goalkeeper in 2020-21. He also clinched the gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games and repeated this triumph at the 2022 Asian Games held in Hangzhou.
