The championship leader benefited from a perfectly timed Virtual Safety Car (VSC) period triggered by Lance Stroll’s stopped Aston Martin. Antonelli immediately dived into the pit lane under caution, gaining a massive time advantage while race leader Lando Norris inadvertently missed the pit entry just before the track was neutralised.

Norris Strategy Blunder and Verstappen’s P2 Finish

The unfortunate timing proved catastrophic for McLaren and polesitter Norris, who had commanded the opening stint of the 57-lap race at the Madring. By the time Norris was able to execute his pit stop under full green-flag conditions, both Antonelli and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen had leapfrogged the British driver. Verstappen seized on the tactical shake-up to secure a strong P2 finish, holding off Norris, who was forced to settle for third spot after losing track position during the VSC window.

Championship Surge and Hamilton's First DNF

Behind the podium finishers, Ferrari's Charles Leclerc recovered to take fourth position, while George Russell crossed the line in fifth for Mercedes.
