Shubman Gill’s signed Lord’s Test jersey sold for ₹5.41 lakh at the Red for Ruth charity auction, with Jasprit Bumrah’s shirt fetching a close second, raising funds to support cancer care initiatives.
Shubman Gill’s match-worn and signed India Test jersey from the Lord’s Test of the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy has been sold for £4,600 (about ₹5.41 lakh) at the Budds auction, under a lot dedicated to the Red for Ruth charity. The shirt drew the highest bid among dozens of cricket memorabilia on offer, which included signed jerseys and caps from both teams, portraits, bats, and hospitality tickets.
According to News18, Gill’s shirt, worn while he emerged as the series’ highest run-scorer in India’s 2–2 draw against England, was described by the auction site as: “This special-edition shirt, worn in support of the Ruth Strauss Foundation, features the official India Test crest and shows visible signs of match wear, with staining and unwashed. Gill, renowned for his graceful stroke play and calm temperament, is one of the brightest talents in world cricket. Shirt is unwashed and match worn—a rare collector’s item from a memorable day at the Home of Cricket.”
Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja’s signed match-worn jerseys were the joint second-highest sellers at £4,200 (around ₹4.94 lakh), while KL Rahul’s fetched £4,000 (about ₹4.70 lakh).
On the England side, Joe Root’s signed jersey attracted the highest bid at £3,800 (₹4.47 lakh), followed by Ben Stokes’ at £3,400 (₹4 lakh). Among caps, Root’s signed ones sold for the most at £3,000 (₹3.52 lakh), while Rishabh Pant’s earned the best price for India at £1,500 (₹1.76 lakh).
The single highest-priced item overall was a print of artist Sacha Jafri’s painting of the 2019 World Cup-winning moment, which went for £5,000 (₹5.88 lakh).
Each year, one day of a Lord’s Test is dedicated to the Ruth Strauss Foundation, launched in memory of former England captain Andrew Strauss’ late wife, who died of cancer. The “Red for Ruth” initiative sees players, broadcasters, and fans don red to raise funds. Since its inception six years ago, the charity has supported more than 3,500 family members coping with grief and trained over 1,000 cancer care professionals in bereavement support.
