New Delhi: Sportsman Rinku Singh, who plays for the Indian team in the T20I format and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League, got engaged to Member of Parliament (MP) and lawyer Priya Saroj on Sunday, June 8. The private ceremony was held at Hotel Centrum in Lucknow on Sunday afternoon, with several Samajwadi Party (SP) leaders, including Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, Jaya Bachchan, Shivpal Yadav, and Praveen Kumar, in attendance.

Priya Saroj’s father, Tufani Saroj, ahead of the ceremony, told IANS that he is elated about his daughter’s engagement today. "Today is the engagement ceremony, and we are gathered here for the same,” he added.

For the uninitiated, Singh and the newly elected MP from SP have known each other for over a year and were introduced by a mutual friend whose father also hails from the cricket industry.

Tufani Saroj, earlier this year had publicly addressed his daughter’s dating rumors with Singh and admitted that the two were contemplating getting hitched soon.

“Rinku and Priya have known each other for some time. They were introduced through Priya’s friend’s father, who is a cricketer himself. With the blessings of both families, they have decided to get married,” the bride’s father told ANI.

Engagement menu: An all-vegetarian spread including local and foreign flavors was served to the 300+ guests, who arrived to bless the couple. Awadhi delicacies, Bengali sweets like roshogolla and kaju-paneer rolls, and multiple appetizers from European and Asian cuisine were a part of the royal menu. Along with malai kofta, kadai paneer tikka, matar malai, paneer, vegetable manchurian, and spring rolls were also gorged on by guests.

Singh (26), from Aligarh, delivered a stunning performance back in IPL 2023 against Gujarat Titans, where he hit five consecutive sixes to win the match for KKR. He also made a significant contribution in the batting department in the IPL, scoring a crucial 46 against Sunrisers Hyderabad. On the other hand, Priya Saroj became the second youngest MP elected in 2024 after emerging victorious in the Lok Sabha elections from Macchlishahr.
