Paris: India put up a splendid show on day 5 of Paris Paralympics. Thanks to the heroics of our athletes, India remained on course for a record-breaking medal haul.
On September 2, star javelin thrower Sumit Antil became the first Indian man and second from the country to defend the title as he won the F64 category gold with Paralympics record of 70.59m at the Paris Games.
Earlier in the day, Nitesh, a 29-year-old engineering graduate from IIT-Mandi, who lost his left leg in a train accident back in 2009, won the top honours in the men's singles SL3 category, defeating Tokyo silver-medallist Daniel Bethell of Britain 21-14 18-21 23-21 in a gruelling final that lasted over an hour.
With a total of 15 medals including three gold, India currently stands at the 15th position in the medal’s tally hoping to improve its position further.
With the hope of continuing India’s great run at the Paralympics, Indian athletes will be majorly in action in para archery, para shooting and para athletics.
