Bengaluru: The inaugural Neeraj Chopra Classic, originally scheduled for May 24 at Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru, has been postponed until further notice due to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.

In a statement, India’s Olympic gold medallist javelin thrower, Neeraj Chopra, shared that the decision was made after careful consideration of the situation and with the well-being of athletes, stakeholders, and the community as the top priority. "We believe in the unifying power of sport, but in this critical moment, standing firm with the nation matters the most. Our thoughts and gratitude are with our Armed Forces, who are at the forefront of protecting the nation," the statement read.

The event, classified as a World Athletics ‘A’ category meet, was set to feature top javelin throwers, including Anderson Peters of Grenada and Julius Yego of Kenya. The NC Classic was also an important qualification event for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.

A revised schedule for the event will be announced in due course.
