Chennai: One among India's most celebrated cricketers, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, has earned widespread praise on social media after completing drone pilot training and becoming a certified expert in aviation technology.

Dhoni completed the programme at Garuda Aerospace, India’s leading drone manufacturer and a DGCA-approved Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) in Chennai, where he also serves as brand ambassador.

The news of Dhoni becoming a certified drone pilot was met with positive reactions online, marking a notable moment as one of India’s most celebrated sports icons embraces the future of aviation technology.

The rigorous training combined theoretical classroom sessions with intensive practical flying exercises, both on simulators and real drones. With the certification, Dhoni is now authorised to operate drones, highlighting their potential to support India’s growth story through safe and regulated drone operations.

Garuda Aerospace instructors shared the news on social media platforms X and Facebook, receiving widespread likes and shares.

Garuda Aerospace said in a statement: “When legends choose innovation, they choose Garuda. MS Dhoni is now a DGCA Certified Drone Pilot, trained at Garuda Aerospace RPTO. Join 2500+ certified pilots shaping the future of aerial technology.”

Dhoni expressed his excitement at completing the DGCA Drone Pilot Certification Programme and looks forward to continuing his journey with Garuda Aerospace. The RPTO has trained over 2,500 aspiring pilots under the guidance of experienced Master Instructors.

Dhoni, who retired from all forms of international cricket but continues to play in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings, is India’s most successful cricket captain, having led the country to two World Cup titles. In addition to cricket, he is a bike enthusiast and holds an honorary position with the Armed Forces.
