Thrissur: Palakkad clinched their third consecutive Kerala State School Sports Meet Championship (overall district winner) in dominant fashion here on Friday. With the completion of all events at the meet, the district managed to secure 266  points. The district bagged 28 gold, 27 silver and 12 bronze medals.

Malappuram (168 points) and Kozhikode districts (95 points) finished second and third positions in the meet, respectively. Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram managed to be in top five positions. 

Ideal E. H. S. S. Kadakassery in Malappuram clinched the top position among the schools by scoring 57 points. Mar Basil H S S Kothamangalam and K. H. S. Kumaramputhur managed to be in the top three positions among the schools.

A 4.25-foot-high trophy awaits the overall  district winner at the special pavilion in Kunnamkulam here. This is the tallest of all trophies that have been eyed by competitors in the event. According to committee convenor A Jabir, this is the largest trophy ever readied for a State School Sports meet. A total of Rs 2 lakh was spent on 52 trophies. The money for the same was pooled partly by sponsorship.
