"My parents have been an essential part of my journey," said football’s shining star.

Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmatí won the women’s Ballon d’Or for a third consecutive year on Monday.
Bonmatí led Barcelona to a treble last season.
She claimed the award ahead of her Spain teammate Mariona Caldentey, who joined Arsenal last summer and helped secure the biggest prize in the club’s history—the Champions League.
Following her win, Bonmatí delivered a heartfelt message to her fellow nominees, emphasizing the importance of their roles. The Barcelona and Spain star described them as “role models” carrying responsibilities both “on and off the pitch.”
"I’m very proud to accept this Ballon d’Or tonight. It’s been an extraordinary journey in terms of football," she said.
Acknowledging the nature of the sport, she continued, "Although this is an individual award, football is a collective effort. I want to share this honor with my teammates, the staff, everyone at Barcelona, and my international teammates. I wouldn’t be here without their support, nor would I have achieved this level of success."
She went on to thank her family, adding, "My parents have been an essential part of my journey," as well as Barcelona’s president, Joan Laporta.
In her powerful speech, Aitana Bonmatí reminded her fellow nominees: “We must be more than just athletes—leading by example and advocating for a more just, peaceful, and equal world.”
Notably, her remarks came shortly after Vinicius Jr. was honored for his social activism and charitable efforts, particularly in response to the racist abuse he endured in Spain.
Aitana Bonmatí’s crowning glory is a testament to the true warrior she is, both on and off the field. (With inputs from Agencies)
