New Delhi: Indian cricketer Sanju Samson has been named the official ambassador of the English Premier League (EPL) in India, marking a major step in the league’s efforts to strengthen its presence in the country.

According to a press release, Samson will play a key role in promoting the EPL brand and engaging with fans nationwide.

As part of his ambassadorial duties, Samson recently met former England and Liverpool striker Michael Owen at a fan engagement event in Mumbai. The event featured a fan-park style screening along with interactive community activities at the NESCO Centre.

A self-professed Liverpool fan, Samson expressed his admiration for the club and spoke about his lifelong connection with football, which he attributes to growing up in Kerala within a family passionate about the sport. Owen, meanwhile, was surprised by the number of Arsenal supporters at the event, a reflection of the growing football culture in India.

In addition to his EPL role, Samson has a longstanding connection with football in India through his position as brand ambassador for Kerala Blasters FC. He made his debut appearance as the club ambassador during a match against Hyderabad FC, showcasing his commitment to promoting football in his home state.
