Highlighting the sport’s spirit, the campaign aims to bridge generations of fans. Get ready to build your own football history as the world prepares for the 2026 tournament!

The world’s most iconic football rivalry has been rebuilt, one brick at a time. In a historic marketing play ahead of the 2026 World Cup, LEGO has officially united Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi for a new global campaign, marking the first time the two legends have shared the screen in plastic form.
The campaign, titled "LEGO Editions," doesn't just stop with the veteran duo; it also welcomes Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior into the fold, immortalising all four superstars as official LEGO minifigures for the first time in the brand's history.
Building the Beautiful Game
The centrepiece of the launch is a high-production advertisement that mirrors the cultural impact of the duo’s famous 2022 "chess" photograph. In the spot, Ronaldo, Messi, Mbappé, and Vinícius Jr. are seen huddled around a table, engaging in a lighthearted, competitive build of a LEGO-brick World Cup trophy.
The narrative shifts when a young fan enters the frame, completing the trophy and placing a custom minifigure of himself at the summit.
The LEGO Editions Lineup
Scheduled for a staggered release between March and May 2026, the collection offers a range of sets for both casual fans and high-end collectors:
- Football Highlights: Individual action sets featuring the stars on letter-shaped bases (e.g., an ‘R’ base for Ronaldo) in their national team colours.
- The Legends Sculptures: Complex, display-ready builds for Ronaldo and Messi, consisting of nearly 1,000 pieces each.
- The Messi Art Set: A premium 18+ mosaic piece designed to chronicle the career of the Argentine captain.
- Tournament Exclusives: A massive 2,842-piece World Cup Trophy and a 1,498-piece Display Ball containing a hidden miniature stadium.
"It’s not every day you get to be transformed into a LEGO set," said Cristiano Ronaldo during the launch event. "I’m looking forward to seeing fans discover my sporting heritage by building this set."
Kylian Mbappé added that the collection "reflects my journey and shows the passion, energy, and imagination that football brings to people."
The "LEGO Editions" collection is expected to be a primary merchandise driver as the 2026 World Cup prepares to kick off across North America this June.
