London: The chair of the English Football Association has urged FIFA president Gianni Infantino to publish all documentation concerning the scrapped proposal to sell an equity stake in the World Cup to private investors.

Infantino's plan collapsed following intense pushback throughout global football, during which European governing body UEFA threatened to boycott all FIFA tournaments until the proposal was withdrawn.

FA chair Debbie Hewitt, who also serves as a FIFA vice-president and sits on the FIFA Council, has sent a letter to Infantino requesting complete transparency and the disclosure of all files associated with the initiative prior to the next FIFA Council gathering on October 15.

In her letter, Hewitt also demanded the release of documentation detailing the choice to lift a suspension issued to United States striker Folarin Balogun during the World Cup, a decision that occurred after a telephone conversation between US President Donald Trump and Infantino.

Infantino offered an apology in August over how the private investor plan was handled, and an official release from FIFA's management board promised an internal review. However, global football's governing body has not specified who is conducting that investigation.

UEFA stated that it has "lost confidence" in Infantino and has launched legal proceedings in the US court system to compel the disclosure of documents related to the private investment scheme.

Additionally, UEFA has pledged to field a viable rival candidate to challenge Infantino at the FIFA Congress in March, ahead of the 18 November deadline for presidential nominations.

Infantino confirmed earlier this month that he intends to run for re-election.
